✨ New Class Spotlight ✨ African American literature, led by the amazing Christine Poage, is making waves at Hannibal High School. Earlier this year, 15 students embarked on a special project, becoming authors and illustrators of thought-provoking books. 📚✨
Their stories, filled with vivid imagery, were shared with younger Pirates at Eugene Field Elementary. Through these tales, students delved into the struggles and triumphs of African American slaves in pursuit of freedom, sparking curiosity and inspiring questions. It was an unforgettable experience for all involved.
Mrs. Poage shared, "We talk about art and music and literature and poetry and all these different forms, and we tie it together. We’ve learned about diversity, and we have learned about people — different people who have different experiences,” she said. “I think sometimes differences can scare people, so we want to break those boundaries. We want every single race, nationality, creed, color and religion to feel valued and impactful and to know their voice matters.🌟 🏴☠️

Coach Nicholas (Hannibal Middle School) brought his fascinating snake collection to reward hardworking 2nd graders at A.D. Stowell Elementary! 🐍👏

🎨Our very own Athletic Director, Clint Graham, showcased his creative side at the Hannibal Art Council's Bad Art by Good People event last week!
With artist mentor Peggy Burchard-Ballard by his side, Coach Graham crafted a unique collage. 🤩

💐Start Date: August 2006. Fun fact: Helen was welcomed with a bouquet of flowers and balloons, at her hourse--an event so surprising her dad thought she had won the Publishers Clearing House! 🎈
Favorite Aspects of Oakwood: "Awesome kids and the best tribe to work with!" Helen also enjoys the holidays and summers off!🌞
Interests Outside School: Family is central to Helen’s life, especially fun game nights with her adult kiddos. ❤
Hobbies: Helen loves reading! 📚 She also shared, " I try very hard to keep my house plants alive. Last year my hubby built a raised garden bed, it was pretty successful. Hopefully this year will be the same!"🌿
Upcoming Adventures: Helen is gearing up for an exciting Alaskan cruise with her family this June, her first cruise ever!🚢

💲🏴☠️ Our HHS juniors and seniors in Dr. Haner's finance classes are getting a real-world education in managing money, thanks to our friends from HOMEBANK! They dove into everything from the basics of bank accounts and saving tips to retirement planning and scam prevention. 🤩
We also discussed the crucial role of supporting local businesses. Keeping our dollars in the community ensures Hannibal stays vibrant and strong. 👏
Special thanks to Quincy Branch Manager Jenna Schrage and former Pirate (and finance student of Dr. Haner) Anna Maple, both of whom brought valuable insights to our students. It’s always great to see past students, like Anna, thriving and giving back!
