We’re excited to introduce Carlee McCoy, a junior at HHS, who will be sharing Pirate news and stories through her own student lens this year! (You may have already spotted Carlee on the sidelines of our home varsity games snapping photos with Andrea Campbell. )
A true Pirate leader, Carlee is active in STUCO, HHS Softball, Wrestling stats, her church youth group and volunteer nursery program; all while pursuing her love for photography, reading, leadership projects, and cooking. Her favorite thing to do is cheer on her loved ones in the activities they love!
Carlee is the daughter of Darrell and Jamie McCoy, and Daniel and Tisha Smith. She has five siblings: Aurora, Andilyn, Jasen, Ryker, and Zander. Looking ahead, Carlee hopes to graduate college with a degree in child development and pursue a doctorate in occupational therapy, working with children as a pediatric OT.
Join us in cheering her on as she shines a spotlight on HPS students, staff, and community. Welcome aboard, Carlee!

Earlier today, Hannibal High School received a threat via fax. Hannibal Public Schools and the Hannibal Police Department immediately initiated safety protocols and began a thorough investigation. The high school campus was quickly evacuated after receiving the threat. Because the threat was specific to the high school, students were relocated to Hannibal Middle School.
Following a complete review and investigation by the Hannibal Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, ATF, FBI, NECOM, and Illinois Secretary of State Police Department, it has been determined that the threat was non-credible. As part of the investigation, a total of six bomb detection canines conducted a comprehensive search of the high school grounds and facilities.
The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our highest priority, and we appreciate the cooperation of everyone involved during today’s response. The building has been cleared as safe and will be open from 3:30–4:30 p.m. for students to retrieve belongings left behind. Students should park at the auditorium and enter through the auditorium doors.
Tonight’s Varsity Football game against Kirksville will continue as scheduled, with kickoff at 7:00 p.m. at Porter Stadium. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased law enforcement presence on site. For the safety of all spectators, only clear bags will be permitted inside the stadium.
We thank our community for their patience and support as we worked to ensure a safe environment for our students and families today.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ritchie Kracht
Superintendent, Hannibal Public Schools
Chief Jacob Nacke
